American flags line the streets, and red, white, and blue banners hang from front porches as the country prepares for its 250th birthday. But in Texas, that’s not much different from any other summer. I’d argue that the colors of summer in Texas have always been red, white, and blue. Flags wave in the warm breeze, sprinklers arc across sunbaked lawns, and kids spend their days swimming until dusk. Every passerby feels like a potential friend, and every neighborhood carries a sense of belonging. Here, patriotism isn’t reserved for milestones—it’s woven into the rhythm of everyday life.

Summer brings people together, and in Lufkin, Texas, down deep in the Piney Woods of East Texas, that atmosphere is stronger than ever.  For starters, there’s a new gig in town: Summer in the City, down in Cotton Square Park, bringing families of all ages together for live music, interactive events, movies, and unforgettable summer nights.
